Jamie Morgan, 8:35:09, 4th M35-39, 26th place overall, 4:50:36*-3:44:33
* The first time is the amalgamation of the 6.7km run, two transitions and the 155km bike.
Congratulations Jamie!
Jamie's race report:
As a race report, I'm no journalist, so will try not to bore you (too much)...
Swim was cancelled due to high winds and dangerous swim conditions. Every day this week has been brilliant, but it turned nasty overnight. First time this race has been a duathlon in its 29 year history. Organisers also spooked by a death last week at the Ishigaki Olympic Triathlon in the swim. Duathlon distance then of 6.5km run/155km ride/42.2km run in very windy conditions.
Japanese racers all happy about no swim, but we as a group were shattered - there went any advantage we may have had.
As expected we got smoked in the first run and had to wade through what seemed like hundreds of riders within the first 15kms.
Very tough and windy conditions for all, with a lot of headwind and crosswind making riding at times dangerous. I can now say that I have flown on my bike, as I was picked up and put down almost sideways by a gust, at 55km/hr. No idea how I stayed upright.
Onto the run, and conditions were still overcast and cool, with an initial tailwind. As an out and back course this meant the return leg was all headwind! Had a great out run, in 1:42:30 or so, but it took 2:02 to get back. Wheels fell off at about 28kms and had to drag my sorry, cramping carcass through the last third.
Saturday 20th April, 2013
Jeff Beavis has been selected for the Olympic Distance team for London 2013. Congratulations!

Rob's comments:
The swim was a token effort around the dam twice but some of the mountain bikers seemed to even struggle with that. (Jarratt - sounds like a challenge!)
The bike was all single track and took about 80mins with a cross country run at the end. Overall it was good fun and a good warmup for X Terra.

Rob Solly, 20:18, 32nd 40-44

Not what I was expecting (a bit slower than other years). Swim felt good, I felt relaxed and had no hold ups during the swim. The conditions were a bit choppy. The only difference between this year and others has been a change of wetsuit brand. From 2xu to Blue Seventy. However I enjoyed the day and will go again next year.

Emerald Nuts Midnight run 4 mile
Sandra Buth decided to see in the New Year in style!
It was a great race, very slow start - 10,000 participants across the line, stop/start to about the 2 mile mark and hilly - but untimed. 20 minutes of overhead fireworks, spectacular. Chilly, no snow or rain.
